The Story Behind the Cast

I just realized that I have posted several pictures of Aiden with his arm in a cast and haven't even mentioned it. Well, here is the story....

Aiden had been out of school for two weeks and we had gotten into a routine. Every day after the boys had eaten breakfast and before we did any of our activities for the day, we would go to the gym. There is a playroom for the children in the gym and I do crossfit so generally we are in and out of there pretty quick. I wasn't worried about leaving the boys in the room at all because they have been playing there for almost 2 years now.

I was sitting in the floor with Holden when Aiden took off running across the room. I heard a crash behind me and turned around to see Aiden on the floor with the table on top of his hand. I really didn't think he was hurt that bad until I realized how heavy the table was when I went to pick it up.

Aiden didn't even really cry. He ran around in a circle and waved his arms around like crazy. That had a big impact on Holden, he still does an impression of it now.

So this is what happened... Apparently, Aiden had watched spiderman at his friend's house the day before and had decided to do one of the moves that he had seen. He had run across the room, grabbed the edge of the table and swung his legs up on top of the table.

After I picked up the table and got Aiden to stop running around, I looked at his hand and it was aready bruised and beginning to swell. The thing that scared me the most was that his lips turned completely white, no distinction between the color of his lips and the color of his skin.

I called his doctor and they advised me to take him to the ER. Eight hours later, we came home with two broken bones below the index finger of his right hand and a brand new cast. It was a long summer without the pool or beach vacation, but he's healing well and was able to get his cast removed for good the Friday before school started!

Back to School!

Today was Aiden's first day of first grade! I can't believe it! He's growing up so fast. We went to meet his teacher on Friday and he found out that he already has a couple of friends in his class. It made today a lot less stressful for him I think.

To get Aiden ready for his big day and to end summer break with a nice treat, we made some back to school cupcakes.

Decorating these cupcakes seemed simple enough, but turned out to be pretty time consuming. I'm not sure which was more difficult: writing on the fudge graham cookies or getting them to stick in the cupcakes! One of Aiden's friends rang the doorbell while we were working and Aiden jumped at the chance to go outside and play, leaving Holden and me to finish up.

I got up early this morning, packed Aiden's lunch, and made him some apple cinnamon pancakes which I made into the letters ABC (as you can see... lol) for breakfast.

Aiden was a little too tired to be impressed! He had already eaten part of the A when he said, "Hey! These are letters!" Love him...

He was a little more awake when it was time to leave for school.

I guess the first day went pretty well... I got the typical "fine" in response to how was your first day? Yes, he's definitely growing up.

Sticks and Stones

We have been living in our townhouse for almost 2 years now and I have not decorated AT ALL. Not a single picture on the wall or anything... And now that we are getting ready to move in 10 months, I feel the need to at least decorate outside our front door!

The latest issue of Disney's Family Fun magazine gave me the inspiration to do a little outdoor decorating!  Pebble Plaques and Rocky the Hedgehog...

The first step in this mission, was a trip to a local nature center where I took the boys on a mini hike on the trials to collect pebbles, pine cones, and pine needles.

Once we got home, we washed and dried the pebbles.

While we waited for the pebbles to dry, we worked on our hedgehog.

I fell in love with the picture of "Rocky the Hedgehog" in the magazine. It looked pretty easy to accomplish, but well... that assumption was wrong!

Holden had fun with the glue while I attempted to assemble our hedgehog!

And, well this is how our hedgehog turned out... I'm not super happy about it, but it's the best I could do!

After my slightly failed hedgehog attempt, we made some simple salt dough. Holden was really excited to help, but Aiden who has done so many crafts with me over the years, wasn't very interested.

We separated the salt dough into three balls, and I let Holden smash them into flat plaques.

I then set the pebbles that we collected from our hike on the table along with some pretty stones that I had kept from my 7th grade field trip to a gem mine (yes, I'm a total dork. I admit it. I have a rock collection!) and let the boys decorate their plaques.

Aiden was coerced into participating in this step.

Really, mommy, another picture?!

Our decorated plaques ready for the oven.

Once the plaques were finished baking, I let Holden help me add the decoupage.

Of course, he thoroughly enjoyed this part! I'm not sure what it is with kids and glue...

And FINALLY, our completed projects sitting outside our front door! The hedgehog looks a lot better sitting outside, I think!

This was a fun and multi-day process and the boys really like seeing their art whenever we go out the door. Every time Holden sees the decorations, he says, "Awwww... that's so cute!" And makes me smile every time! I think we will try doing more art work like this in the future.

Meet The Boys....

Meet Aiden and Holden

These are the two wild little boys who keep me running around like crazy every day. The reasons I'm going to have gray hair and wrinkles before I turn 30! These are also the boys that I love with all my heart and am so very thankful to wake up and see every morning...

Aiden- My Very Own Spider Man

Aiden is 6 going on 13; starting 1st grade next week. He is my soccer and hockey player and is his little brother's role model. Aiden always keeps me on my toes with his wild imagination and boundless energy.

Holden- The "Precious One"

Holden is my baby (even though he will be turning 3 in two weeks) and he wouldn't have it any other way. He is constantly climbing on my lap, rubbing my face, and giving me "baby kisses". He also refers to himself as "the precious one"

I do my best to teach these boys and keep them entertained. I always have the best intentions, but as you will see, things don't always go as planned... And maybe that's not such a bad thing, because life without chaos would be .. boring! Right?

A Quick Intro

Wow. It's been over two YEARS since I have last blogged. That is definitely a LIFETIME in the bloggy world! As you can imagine, I have gone through many ups and downs during that time period, but I've missed my blog and feel like it's time to get back to it!

While I adore my first blog, My Little World: Choo choos, cars & lip gloss, I feel like too much time has gone by and I need to make a fresh start.

Our little world has changed so much in the last two years.... My little boys have really grown up! I no longer have a cuddly little baby!

My Boys THEN

My Boys NOW

But with an almost 3 year old and a first grader, we have plenty of wild and crazy adventures! So stay tuned...
